In this second edition of our 'Meet the Team' series, we sat down with Melanie Mills - Director of Revenue at PayDashboard. Mel's outgoing personality and ability to create solid, long-lasting relationships both internally and externally make her a familiar face (and voice) to most. But who is Mel, and what makes her tick? Let's find out:
Mel joined PayDashboard at the beginning of 2019, where she left her job as Head of Sales at a digital educational platform.
A bit of background
In her previous role, Mel started with a team of 4, building it to a team of 20 within 3 years. They enjoyed a solid growth trajectory, however things took a downturn and in 2019, only 4 were left out of a team of 100. Facing redundancy, Mel had a 2-month-old daughter and was due to begin a new job with a firm that was about to merge with a larger Italian firm. But fate got in the way, and before she had a chance to sign her contract, PayDashboard swooped in and offered her a contract which she accepted. Needless to say, the MD of the other firm was not impressed and hung up on the call. And the rest is history.....
Q: How did you make it from cosmetics to Sales?
M: I've always worked in Sales, starting at Harvey Nichols in Leeds, where I sold clothes. Sales is in me - I understand people so Sales comes naturally on the back of that. It's all about giving people what they want in any context - clothes, make-up, educational programmes or software. It's essentially all about people building relationships and delivering on people's expectations.
Q: What are your hobbies?
M: Horse-riding, bike riding and netball
Q: Where will your first holiday be once travel restrictions are lifted?
M: Portugal or the Maldives, but really, it depends where we can go
Q: You have a daughter, Millie. Does she take after her mum?
M: Unfortunately, yes!
Q: If an alien gave you the opportunity to travel the Universe and you'd get to see everything, with the caveat that you'd miss 100 years on Earth, would you do it?
M: No, I wouldn't, I'm quite happy with my life!
Q: What are your personal goals for the future of PayDashboard?
M: To be CEO. I really see myself in that position
M: Anything else you'd like to add? How about a random strange fact about you?
M: I have done make-up for some living legends, such as Martina Navratilova and Billie Jean King
