The Marriage Allowance is a tax break that can help your employees to increase the amount of pay their household takes home each month. But it’s not that well known, and over a million eligible couples are not claiming this allowance according to BBC research (June 2018).
We believe that HR and Payroll Teams are key to increasing the uptake of this tax allowance:
- You know whether your staff potentially qualify in terms of their earnings
- Often, HR teams know the marital status of their staff
- You know when staff have their salary reduced due to maternity/paternity leave, reducing to part time hours, long term sickness, or retirement
So, in celebration of National Payroll Week and the theme of "Keeping the nation paid" - we've put together an infographic and employee guide to help HR and Payroll Teams engage with their staff about the marriage allowance, and deliver the required information for their staff to find out more and claim.
